Week in Review (Week 15)

Monday April 11, 2016 - Sunday April 17, 2016

According to ISO-8601 standard, weeks start on Monday. The first week of each year is the week which contains that year's first Thursday. This oddly gives the capability for the year to have 53 weeks instead of the school taught 52.

Week 16's Hardware Review

Here I am going to try to document all "projects" that I have started, continued, or ended in the previous week.

1. DigiStump and DigiSpark. After examining the ATTiny86 micro lines, and stumbling upon the DigiStump family of products, it has peaked my interest in experimenting with their DigiSpark products.

2. Aliexpress, the retail side of Alibaba: Watching several YouTube electronics videos, I noticed how a lot of the people referred to purchasing cheap Chinese reproductions. After looking into it further I noticed a considerable number of them were making their purchases either from eBay or from Aliexpress.
Briefly researching Aliexpress I noticed there are a lot of people wondering if Aliexpress is a scam, or can be trusted. So I started a project to document my experiences with Aliexpress.
3. Thumbnail Creator: Wanting to have custom images for each of my Aliexpress experiences I decided to quickly program (and I use this term loosely) a simple tool to help automate the process. Using GitHub's Electron, and a little bit of javascript, the basics of a simple tool has emerged.
Over the next week I hope to have edited the time lapse video, and upload the code to GitHub.

4. Flipboard. I was pleasantly surprised to find that somebody had featured one of my posts, and this drove plenty of new traffic from the Flipboard application. I now have a new way to consume tech news on the go.
